# Set Up Your Rise Account: Complete Onboarding Guide

> How Rise onboarding works: an intro meeting, the contract, an onboarding session, data migration handled by Rise, and inviting your employees.

Rise is set up together with the Rise team. You don't do it alone: our specialists review where your business stands today, agree the processes and integrations with you, and handle the data migration from your previous system. By the time onboarding is done, your books are live, your bank is connected, and Rise's AI is categorising and reconciling your transactions — with a certified accountant team reviewing the work.

<Note>
  You don't need to build a chart of accounts, enter VAT details, or configure accounting settings yourself. The Rise team handles all of that as part of onboarding.
</Note>

## Step-by-step

<Steps>
  <Step title="Book an intro meeting">
    Book a meeting with Rise's specialists. We go through where your business stands today: your current bookkeeping and systems, transaction volumes, team size, and what you want to automate. You'll also see how Rise works in practice.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign the contract">
    You receive a quote sized to your company and transaction volume. Once the contract is signed, onboarding starts.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review of where you stand">
    Rise's chief accountant reviews your current books before anything is migrated. Any errors found are either corrected on Rise's side or sent back to your previous accounting firm to fix.

    **Your old contract is not terminated at this point.** That happens only once both you and Rise agree the material is ready to move.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Onboarding session">
    In the onboarding session we confirm your processes, the integrations you need, approval flows, user roles, and the onboarding schedule. After it, you know what happens and when.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Rise migrates your data">
    The Rise team migrates your accounting data from your previous system and confirms the details — chart of accounts, VAT treatment, open sales and purchase invoices, and your company information. You don't do any of this yourself; you just answer the team's follow-up questions.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect your bank account">
    You authorise the bank connection yourself via open banking (PSD2). It takes a few minutes, after which your transactions flow into Rise automatically.

    **Connect the bank the day before your migration date, not earlier.** Done sooner, Rise starts pulling transactions from a period your previous system is still responsible for.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Invite your employees">
    Invite your team into the app. They can photograph receipts, file expense and travel claims, and approve purchase invoices straight from mobile — with no separate training.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## When to schedule the move

You can move **mid-financial-year, at any month boundary**. The start of a new financial year is the natural moment but not a requirement: Rise takes responsibility for the whole current year and reviews the books backwards.

One timing is worth avoiding: **the last month before the annual accounts.** The move and the year-end preparation then collide, to nobody's benefit.

Your data is migrated on the first day of the month, so the old and new books don't overlap.

## What happens to your old system

You don't drop the old system overnight. Three things continue across the transition:

* **Changing your e-invoicing address takes about a month.** Billers update addresses slowly, so keep the old system running alongside for that period. Rise handles the address change and gives you instructions for the services where it can't make the change on your behalf.
* **The previous year's annual accounts are usually completed by your previous accounting firm.** Rise takes over from the current financial year onwards.
* **Don't terminate your bank connections until it's been agreed.** Rise requests its own bank connection agreement for payments, and transactions are retrieved over PSD2 under your own authorisation — cutting the old connection too early would also cut off your previous system's bookkeeping.

<Note>
  The original accounting material is retained for the period the law requires, regardless of which system it has been migrated into.
</Note>

## How much of your time this takes

Typically **one to two hours**. The migration work, the settings and the data transfer are Rise's responsibility; your part is the onboarding session, agreeing the approval flows, and answering follow-up questions.

## What happens next

As soon as your bank is connected, Rise's AI begins processing your transactions — categorising expenses, matching receipts, and flagging anything that needs your attention. Approval requests arrive directly in the Rise mobile app.

Your accountant team reviews your first month's books in full. If anything looks unusual, they'll reach out. After that, they monitor your books on an ongoing basis, so you always have professional oversight running in the background.

  You can reach your accountant team at any time through in-app messaging or by emailing [support@risegroup.eu](mailto:support@risegroup.eu).
