Connecting your bank is the step that brings Rise to life. Once your account is linked, Rise pulls in your transactions and the AI categorises, reconciles, and flags whatever needs your attention. There are two separate things to set up, and they run on different timelines.

Read access

Open banking (PSD2). Lets Rise see your transactions and balance. You set it up yourself in about 15 minutes.

Payment mandate

A bank agreement and power of attorney. Lets Rise pay your supplier invoices. Your bank needs 1–3 weeks to process it.
Start the payment mandate first, even though it’s the last thing you’ll use. The bank’s processing time is the one part nobody can speed up. Tell your Rise team you want payments enabled, and set up read access while the paperwork is in motion.

How read access works

Rise connects to your bank through open banking, the regulated framework established under PSD2. Rise gets read-only access to your transaction data through your bank’s official API. Your login credentials are never shared with Rise or stored on Rise’s servers — you authenticate directly with your bank. You can revoke the connection at any time, from Rise or from your bank. Read access cannot move money. Paying invoices requires the separate mandate covered further down this page.

Before you start

Most failed connections come down to a setting in your bank, not a problem in Rise. Check these first.
  • You have personal banking credentials (mobile ID or your bank’s authentication app) on the same phone as Rise.
  • You have access rights to the company account in your bank’s online service.
  • Third-party (PSD2) access is enabled for your company. This is not on by default at every bank.
OP does not allow third-party services by default. You open the rights yourself at op.fi — there’s no need to call.On the Users and access rights page (the interface is in Finnish):
  1. Select the user.
  2. Open the Lisää (More) menu and choose Muokkaa käyttöoikeuksia (Edit access rights).
  3. Pick the account or accounts under Maksaminen ja laskutus → Tilikohtaiset käyttöoikeudet (Payments and invoicing → Account-specific access rights).
  4. Tick both Tiedonsaanti- ja maksuoikeus (right to information and payment) and Maksuoikeus kolmansien osapuolien palvelussa (payment right in third-party services).
  5. Choose Tallenna (Save).
Both selections are needed. The information right alone is not enough for a third-party service.Rights are granted per account and per user, so remember every account you want in Rise and everyone who will connect one — including yourself. If the page doesn’t show these options, or you can’t edit rights, call OP’s business customer service. The same thing can be arranged with an agreement sent for electronic signature, which activates in about an hour.Authentication for OP business customers runs through the OP Yritysmobiili app — not the personal OP-Mobiili. Install it on the same phone as Rise.
Nordea runs two business services and you pick one in Rise. Choosing the wrong one produces the same error as a missing access right, so settle this first. If you log in to Nordea Business on your phone or in the browser, you’re on Nordea Business — this is most Rise customers. Corporate Netbank is a separate service you would know you had: it’s agreed with a cash management contact, not opened online.Neither one requires you to order anything. Nordea needs no extra agreement for third-party access, and since 5 October 2022 the right to authorise it is included in administrator rights by default. What differs is who may authorise and how they identify themselves. One rule applies to both: only accounts categorised as transaction, savings or currency are returned. An account categorised as other stays invisible to Rise even though you see it normally in your bank. If an account is missing after an otherwise successful connection, this is usually why — ask Nordea to change its category.

Connect your account

1

Open bank connections

In Rise, go to Settings → Bank Connections → Add Bank.
2

Find your bank

Search by name or filter by country. If your bank offers several business services, pick the one you actually use to log in.
3

Authenticate with your bank

Rise redirects you to your bank. Log in as you normally would. This happens entirely in your bank’s environment.
4

Select your accounts

Confirm which accounts Rise may read. Rise only ever requests read access here.
5

Return to Rise

Wait for the confirmation screen before closing the app.
Your bank’s authentication usually opens a separate app, so leaving Rise mid-flow is unavoidable. If the return screen shows an error or keeps loading, don’t retry straight away. Close Rise, reopen it, and check Settings → Bank Connections — the connection has often gone through. If the account still isn’t listed after 15 minutes, contact support with the bank name and the time you tried.

After connecting

  • Transactions are fetched four times a day — the maximum PSD2 allows without you authenticating each time.
  • Your balance updates in real time, every time you open the app.
  • No balance showing at all? An access right is probably missing for that account at your bank.
  • History depends on your bank — typically 90 days to 24 months, retrieved when you connect.
  • Consent expires and has to be renewed. Usually after 180 days, though some banks set it as short as 80. Rise notifies you before it runs out, and renewing takes the same few minutes as the original setup.
Renewal is the price of open banking, and it is worth paying. Traditional accounting systems pull account data over the banks’ legacy web-services channel: that consent never expires, but transactions update only once a day and the fetches are billed per batch. In Rise they arrive four times a day with no separate fetch batches — the books are current the same day rather than the next.

Enable payments

Read access lets Rise see your account. Sending payment files to your bank is a different arrangement: it needs a bank connection agreement (Web Services) and a power of attorney authorising a data processor to handle your machine-readable payment traffic. Rise’s data processor is Netbox Finland Oy.

What you need

  • Signing authority in the company. Associations, foundations, and housing companies need a board decision.
  • Your business ID and the IBANs of the accounts payments will leave from.
  • About two weeks.
1

Tell Rise you want payments enabled

Name the accounts to be used. Rise sends you the power of attorney pre-filled with the data processor’s details.
2

Sign the power of attorney

Signed by someone with signing authority. Most banks handle this as an electronic form with electronic signature.
3

Your bank opens the connection

You receive a certificate and, at most Finnish banks, a two-part transfer key — one part arrives by SMS. Pass it to Rise through the channel we agree, never by email.
4

Rise configures the connection

We tell you when it’s ready, then run one small test payment with you before normal payment runs begin.

What the agreement covers

If your bank asks which data types to include: The mandate covers euro accounts. Foreign currency accounts are agreed with your bank separately.
You don’t configure payment settings yourself. If Rise ever routes you to a screen labelled WS settings, that’s an accountant tool — contact support instead.

Troubleshooting

Almost always a missing third-party access right or the wrong service selected. See Before you start above. This isn’t a fault in Rise, and retrying won’t change it.
Close Rise completely, reopen it, and check Settings → Bank Connections. The connection often succeeded even when the return screen didn’t say so. Wait 15 minutes before trying again, and contact support with the bank name and time if the account never appears.
The balance refreshes every time you open the app, so close Rise and reopen it first. If it’s still empty, check the access rights at your bank — at OP, both selections must be ticked for that specific account.
At OP, rights are granted per account, so check that the missing account was selected in the access rights. At Nordea, only accounts categorised as transaction, savings or currency are returned — an account categorised as other stays invisible even though you see it normally in your bank. Ask Nordea to change its category.
The payment mandate isn’t live yet. Contact support and we’ll tell you where the paperwork stands.
Open banking consent needs periodic renewal — usually every 180 days, though some banks set it as short as 80. Go to Settings → Bank Connections, find the account, and click Reconnect.
Contact support@risegroup.eu and we’ll tell you whether it’s on the roadmap. In the meantime, upload statements manually under Settings → Bank Connections → Upload Statement (CSV and OFX).
Go to Settings → Bank Connections, click Disconnect, then add the correct account. Your accountant team can clean up any transactions already imported — ask in the in-app chat.

When something doesn’t work

Contact your Rise team through the in-app chat or support@risegroup.eu. Include four things:
  1. What you were doing
  2. Which bank
  3. The time it happened
  4. A screenshot of the error
The timestamp is what lets us find the event in the logs.
